I have never liked Lake Conroe. I wanted to run my boat a little and like a fool, I took it to the chop bowl. I overpaid my $15 at Inland and off I went. I am fully aware that this is a no-wake zone. I am outing along at 5 mph when a constable on a jet ski hastily zig-zags his way over to me. I turned everything off and begin to pull out all of the necessities. I get a citation for whatever. As we are finishing up, the constable yells over at another boat to slow down. The constable tells me that "at least I am not the only one going too fast". I told him that was a subjective conclusion and have a good day. As soon as he is through, he hauls [censored] over to that same boat and stops them, too. There was also a boat "pulling" people over. When I cam back in, I saw a pontoon boat being pulled over that wasn't even making a ripple.

When I was pulled over, I looked down at my GPS. I was doing 5 mph. Getting a citation for hauling butt is one thing but causing a ripple is another. Lake Conroe is the most agitated lake I have ever been on. I question my sanity every time I am stupid enough to get on it. I also like the way that the constable makes his own wake as he is making his way over to another on the water criminal.

I can't wait to find out what outrageous fee I will have to fork out for this. Lord strike me down if I ever venture out onto this waste of water acreage.

I must say I agree with that "chop bowl" statement. I've been on there in calm wind days and theres always chop and waks. But that is ridiculous. I usually stay around the south end south of FM 1097.

Well if there was a lake they needed to be on, its Conroe and other like it during this time of year. But 5mph is usually considered no wake speed. That does suck.

I swear there was a family in a pontoon boat that was going slower than that.

Launching down South on Conroe this time of year is always a problem. The constables and other popo are thick in that area and are trying to keep things under control. I live on the lake in one of the coves that's a constant party on the weekends and can't believe some of the stupid things I see people doing in boats & jet fleas. Sounds like you got harassed by one that was over the top. Best options for Conroe are to launch up mid lake at Stow A Way or one of the ramps around 1097. Cheaper than any of the ramps down south and the constables don't spend a lot of time up in the mid lake or North end. Even better option is to take a day off during the week and you will practically have the lake to yourself. I always hated Conroe too until I moved to the lake and I'm amazed at how few boats are on the water during the week. Many times I have run the lake when it's slick or very little chop during the week. Thankfully school will be starting soon and the weekend traffic will start to slow down.

Ive been on lake conroe a few times and swear I will never go back after each trip. With all the bulkheads that have been built by homeowners its like a washing machine on that lake when there are boats out running around. I sure wish i would have gotten in on the glory days of fishing on conroe when the hydrilla mats were thick and no grass carp were there and not near as many houses were on the lake. Unfortunately my parents own a house near the lake and i take my dad out sometimes when i am visiting. I have caught some decent bass there despite all the negative factors. I will deginately keep it very slow next time im out there.

I was giving serious consideration to getting a place on Conroe for the cooler months and spend the hot months here in CO. Reading these posts has me wondering if that's such a good idea.

I enjoy Conroe -- especially when its not holidays, etc. The lake that used to have all the Houston pressures was Lake Houston. Now that recreational crowd hits Conroe on weekends and holidays. That's why I rotate between Conroe, Somerville and Gibbons. Bt don't let a crowd scare you off of Conroe. Its large enough to take a crowd. Especially when people are respective of their fishing neighbors! Just avoid the jet skiers!!!

I live on Lake Conroe and have been fishing it very heavily since February and not once have I been out on a weekend and noticed any of these so called "RESPECTIVE OF THEIR FISHING NEIGHBORS" people. They are 99% idiot jackholes with daddys fancy boat and no common sense. I'm a very laid back guy but I will tell you that there has been multiple times when I'm glad my wife was with me while I was fishing or I would have probably ended up in jail for doing harm to some young punks trying to be cool and do circles around me in a wake boat. As far as weekdays I love it though. Just ready for it to cool of so the crowd will F off.

I'm with you, RodBreaker. We have a place north of 1097 but during the summer I rarely go out fishing on the weekends. There are so many morons in wakeboard boats and pontoons dragging people behind them itbreally is like a washing machine some times. I can't remember the last time I went further south than Seven Coves. Just not worth the hassle.

On occasion we will see the constable's boat come north of 1097, usually chasing someone down. I appreciate those folks so much more since seeing them haul off two idiots on jet skis who'd been harassing other boaters. Both arrested for BWI.

Okay. Can you be my attorney?

Me: "Your Honor, I was not creating an excessive wake."
Judge: "Constable, what say you?"
Constable: "I witnessed the defendant creating an excessive wake".
Judge to my attorney: "What do you have to add, Counselor?"
Attorney: "Your Honor, at the time of the alleged excessive wake, my client was insane".
Judge: "Insanity?"
Attorney: "Yes, your Honor. Insanity. My client had to be crazy if he was on Lake Conroe in the Summer on a weekend".
Judge: (Gavel slamming) "Guilty as charged. Next".
