What is the best time to catch big Sunfish?

For me it has been the morning bite. My fishing time is usually in the late afternoon, early evening when I get off of work. With this latest heat wave the bite has been hit and miss during the times I fish from 4pm till 8pm. The same goes for the Crappie bite. During the mornings when I am off and get to fish the bite is really good from sunup till around 11am. You can catch the Sunfish in shallow water and also in the deeper water. Let's say you. What times have you been catching em?

Usually the morning bite is best for me. thumb I fish a lot during the week both on ponds, creeks, rivers, and lakes. The morning bite is the best from around 7am till 11am. coolio I have also had some very good results in the early afternoon from 1pm till 3pm.(You have to battle the heat). bang Late afternoon and evening bite has been slow all year. nuts Have not fished night time yet. Friends of mine who have say the bite is "ON FIRE" from 10pm all the way till 3 or 4 am. breakdance

I find the early morning bite from just before sunup to just after is best. That is not to say they will not bite well at other times, but I have always done best early. I don't even try to stay out in the heat any more but I used to catch fish all day long. If you want to catch fish in the heat of the day you must have access to deeper water with good structure.

That's why I love Sunfish. You don't have to get up when it's still dark to catch them. I have my best luck starting around eight untill nearly noon, especially under shady trees.
