What do you consider a good price? I use a Falcon Cara Amistad Special. 7'3" heavy. Around $225 new. Throw a frog with it as well. I own 2 of them and use them all the time.

No offence but how does 300$ seem like a fair price? Lol

For the money Academy has an 7'10" heavy with a fast tip. This rod is an im8 blank. The eyes are not the best, but for the money you can not beat it. The length of 7'10" allows better control of the jig.

p.s. Academy's warranty process isn't half bad.

If your willing to spend $300 any brand will be good. I use 2 different setups depending on weight. Anything below 3/4 I use a MH(Phenix), 3/4 and up I use the Falcon Amistad. Both are 7'3". I don't prefer one over the other as far as brand or performance is concerned. They both perform just fine.

Sorry but you didn't put what you consider a fair price, that's why I asked in my post. I never buy new rods and have gotten really good deals off the swap/sell board here or on Bass Boat Central. I do think the academy rods are good rods for the money with an excellent return policy if something goes wrong. Didn't mean to offend you, but I also don't know where you got $300 out of my post. I put $225 plus tax would be around $245. Definitely not cheap, but not $300

You almost always get what you pay for. I firmly believe that. If you want high quality, you'll pay for it. If you want decent quality, you'll pay for it. There are a lot of rod companies building rods in the $100 range right now. You can get a decent rod for that kind of money from most companies. I'd say the Fury series from Dobyns is your best bet at $109.99 retail. Get a 735. Great all around rod.

I use Dobyns Savvy 766 for those applications, for at least jigs 3/8 oz and up. About $180 for it.

Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

13 fishing Omen 7'1 H or a 7'3 H for about $100 is best deal I know of.

I use these rods daily and I really like them.

13 Fishing has a new Crankinstein rod 7'11 that is insane for big crank baits like the XD 10 but it runs about $180.
