All,
I'm new to kayak fishing and I'm also a little lazy. I mounted a trolling motor on my kayak. Do tournaments generally allow this or is it frowned upon? And yes I did register the kayak.
Thanks Mike

A lot of your bigger tourneys frown on it, while your smaller events accept them. Personally I don't think it matters. You can either catch fish or not. I've never seen a trolling motor catch a fish.

I'm going to be honest, and maybe this just shows how ignorant I am on this topic, but that thing kind of looks cool. I would fish out of it.

What's even cooler is when on that thing you don't need a PFD!
If a tournament is going to be for kayaks only, then you state in the rules, no TM's or TM's okay! Then some guy shows up with his satellite disk with a trolling motor on it and calls it a kayak so what do you do?
BTW I watched the video on that thing and I give it a 9 on the cool factor chart, but it sits waaaaay too high out of the water or I'd give it a ten.

If you watch a video of the thing it sits like two feet out of the water. Any slight whisper of a breeze will blow you all over the lake. Yes, sarcasm was in play because he's not wearing one, and yes he would need it registered in Texas.

I apologize for the confusion Jerry! I guess with a PFD on you wouldn't be able to read the advertisement on the back of his shirt. If anything required a PFD it would be that contraption! The demo video I watched showed multiple people using the ultraskiff and nobody was wearing a PFD or even had one on the deck.
