I have never used a kayak and would like to get one along with my sons to start fishing out of. I am 51 yo and weigh just shy of 200 lbs. Want something stable and easy to maneuver. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks...

hows the back, hips, knees, shoulders and wrist?
are you stronger up top or below the waist. do u wanna paddle or peddle?
do you fish for bass near the bank or are you going out deep for sandies hybrids stripes or cats?
a 12.5' - 13.5' is going to be the most versital length.

are you on a tight budget or do you want to spend some $ for a proven brand name yak?
the pescador 14 is a nice yak for cheap as is the ascend fs12t. although ive heard some
negs on the ascend hatches leaking.

Hobie
Ocean
Native
Wilderness
Santa Cruz &
Jackson all make some nice 12.5-13.5 yaks. Some even have elevated seats and peddle drives. your gonna spend more for those. on the name brand yaks, generally the wider the yak the more its gonna cost ya. at your weight your gonna have a lot of options. hope this helps clear things up a bit. i advise you test paddle as many as you can stand side by side to make the "BEST" yak choice. hmmm isnt there a demo day coming up soon?

Your height, weight and physical ability as well as budget and targeted waters will give us a better idea of what to help you look at.

Prowler s a great open water kayak, has a deep kill so it is not that great around prefer reef and shallow water.
