Please help with advice.... I am planning on a weekend camping trip to Galveston Island SP in late Sept. or early Oct. I have never fished either area but really want to catch a few fish while I am there. Please advise me how to fish for what species. Probably target flounder or trout, but what else would be good just to fish for to have fun? Thanks in advance for any help and advice...

I am assuming that you will be fishing off the shore or the piers.. I do NOT recommend sea wolf park as it gets extremely crowded and the shell will break you off if you try and fish on the bottom... I would recommend either a guide or fishing off the beach... rollover pass is not that far away but you better get there early if you wanna get a good spot.. if you don't know what rollover pass is just google it.. Good luck!

if you go to GSP, try the bay side, wading early in the AM.

X2 on Smooth move's comment.

That time of year you should be able to catch both reds and trout in Dana's cove. That's the cover behind the state park. Wade with an old pair of tennis shoes or get some canvas wading shoes or high tops to get started. Mostly silt, sand, and mud with grass in their. Slide your feet along the bottom to make sure you don't place them on top of sting rays...this is called the stingray shuffle. The trout will be on the edge of the grass toward deeper water and the reds will be up in the shallows in the grass. You can catch them on anything that will catch a bass. If you have any zara spooks or similar walk the dog type baits in any natural ish color or bone, chrome, clown etc.. then that will do.

If you want to catch a flounder in that area look for channels that flow water on the incoming or outgoing tide and bounce a jig head with gulp curly tail grub or something similar along the bottom back to you and feel for that bass thump. There are also flats NE of SeaWolf park that you can wade in thigh deep water for flounder there as well... same bait, same tennis shoes, and same stingray shuffle.

have fun.
Want to learn more about how to be more effective in catching Trout and Redfish.. then check out the TroutSupport DVD's... don't take my word for them, there's plenty testimonials on the web about what they area and how the support anglers.

Thanks for the information. I also saw a YouTube Video of a place called Broken Bridge. Does that ring a bell?

Thanks for all the great information from everyone! I am excited about trying these places out. Can anyone remove the stingrays before I get down there? (Wishful Thinking)
