Fished a couple of local spots the other day and caught some nice Bull Rios and a few Trophy Redear. The Rios were caught in a river and the Redear were caught on Dunlap. Caught six Rios all over 10". Caught a couple smaller Rios in the 8 to 9" range. Rios were caught using worms with a bottom technique. Fish were holding close to lily pads, grass beds, and rocks. All were released to fight again. I then switched gears and headed to Lake Dunlap. I was able to catch three very nice Redear all over 10" with the biggest going in the 12" range. Rounding out the Dunlap catch were a bunch of fat Bluegill in the 8"range and several nice Channel Cats. Did not catch a single Rio on Dunlap.Fish were caught using worms with a bottom technique. Fish were holding next to docks in 8 to 10 feet of water. All the Dunlap fish were released to fight again. Catching a combination of both Trophy Rios and Redear. It just don't get any better. fish

Those are impressive fish. You really have the Rios dialed in. I do not think I have ever seen a 12 inch Redear except in pictures. Good job!

Thanks "Smithaven"! cheers The Rios have been kind of hard to find this year. hide2 The late spring flooding really messed up their patterns and nesting. hammer I usually have a dozen good places to catch em this time of year. I have only a couple where I can pick up some nice ones. nuts Gonna keep trying and looking. Also your invite is always open. I have some pretty easy places to fish. thumb

Side Note: October and November are usually good times to catch some nice Redear! coolio

Fitz, I've never caught a Rio. I'd start a new thread if I caught one of any size. Congrats Banker.

Those are some "CHUNKS"! Good job Chuck.

Side Note: Has the Rio bite picked up?(Dunlap, rest of the Guadalupe River). Also how is the Redear bite? Drove by Dunlap the other day and the water looked pretty good. This was at New Braunfels.

Thanks "Gitter" for the reply. cheers The Rio bite on the Guadalupe has not been good all year. hammer With all the water that had been let out of Canyon it really messed the bite up a lot. I have not caught many Rios on the Guadalupe this year. bang As for the Redear, the bite has been fair. Caught a few this year in the 12 inch range and a few in the 10 to 11 inch range. thumb

Side Note: As for the Rio bite hopefully next year it will be better! hmmm

That about all you can do is hope for the next year. The Rios will make the come back on the Guadalupe for sure.
