Headed to San Antonio with my family for a week (8/10-8/14) but unfortunately no one else in my family is interested in fishing but would like to have a fish fry one night. My mom says we can just go buy some at the store but I'd rather catch them myself. Tried looking at fishing guides but I'm not seeing anything under 4 anglers. I suppose economically it does them no good to offer one angler guides. I read somewhere the catfishing is good on the upper 1/3 of the Canyon Lake reservoir. Does anyone know anything about Canyon Lake or the smaller lakes nearby in San Antonio?

Since you are only going to be in town for a few days a guided trip is your best bet, but since you don't want to go that route it might be pretty tough to catch enough for a fish fry especially since it's the dog days of summer with the 100* weather so it will be tough.
You can try Calaveras off the bank but there again no guarantees!
One thing you can do since you mentioned Canyon, is right at the corner of 306 and the entrance to Potters Creek park there is Fisherman's Corner. It's a pay pond and there you can catch them yourself or buy them outright.
Some people might think it's a sin to fish a pay pond, but it's cheaper than a guide and pretty much a sure thing!

Thanks Jimbo. I'd love to go on a guided trip but I'm the only one interested. Haven't been able to find any guides for just one person. A fish is a fish to me so I may try the pay pond. I saw that online and it seemed interesting to say the least. I've got limited time to fish so that's probably my best bet. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I took my granddaughters there probably ten years ago and they had a ball.
I know for a fact I had a better time watching them catch those big cats then they did.
