I'm new to Dallas, and a new boater. I store my boat at the lake on a friends lot, and live in Lakewood/Dallas. If I wanted to take the boat out West... I would have to go pick it up first and drive back. My question is:

Can I park my truck with boat on trailer on my street overnight? is that legal? There is plenty of parking and room in my neighborhood, I'm just not sure how to figure this out. Trying to call the city but can't get a straight answer yet.

If you live in an HOA I would double check with them first

Most towns have city ordinances that address overnight storage of cars, trailers, RVs, etc. along streets.

The enforcement of the ordinances are normally complaint driven, so if you don't have any "nosey" neighbors it should be okay as long as you don't do it on a regular basis.

Just to be safe do a search for your local ordinances online or contact your local law enforcement agency.

It's lakewood... but not necessarily where you're probably thinking. It's on a street that only has access to apartment complexes.

I've been trying to figure out who I should actually be calling to try and find this out. Tomorrow I'll try calling the Dallas county and/or 311.

I live in Lakewood and given the number of work trailers, cars, trucks and all manner of dumpsters around for home remodeling I can't imagine an issue with parking a boat on the street except for the thieves that roll around here every night. Better not leave a thing in it.

Legally with no complaint should be fine, I grew up there, these days NO WAY IN HE&* I would leave my boat there!!!! Why I moved out of Dallas long time ago.

Parking is covered under Volume 1, Chapter 28, Article XI.

You can park your trailer on the street, same rules apply as a single unit motor vehicle. Parked facing the right way, don't block driveways or hydrants, don't park on a lawn, wheels within 18 inches of the curb, 24 hour parking rule, etc.

Cars parked on Dallas streets get nailed on a pretty regular basis, I wouldn't park a boat on the street unless I had comprehensive coverage that extended to the boat and trailer. A lot of people wake up every morning and find that someone has side swiped or hit their car and not left any information, most insurance companies won't cover that under an uninsured/underinsured motorist policy. The coverage is probably a good idea anyway.
