Haha. Old farts and their boat docks. Gotta love em. Sadly, I hear about this stuff a lot. And, in a way, I kinda feel for the home owner A TINY LITTLE BIT. The homeowner is wrong, but, I also know what's it's like to have a boat house that gets paint chpped off of it from dudes trying to skip jigs. And boats with "jig chips" in them as well. It causes monetary damage and it is wholely placed upon the homeowner to cover the bill. As for his grand kids fish? Well, that's just an old man being an old man. The old man did really take it over the top though. Shows he still has some spunk. And the fact that the local law inforcement only issued a warning also shows that the locals don't really care about bass anglers rights. I bet the officer sided with the old man when they were talking and probably had a bad taste in his mouth about forigners (non-New Yorkers), fishing their local waters.

Sounds like Mr. Menendez did the correct thing. Try to minimize the confrontation, report it, and continue on.

There seems to be one of these "guys" on every lake. I've heard way too many stories over the years. Good for Mark pursuing this and making the guy pay for his actions.
Was a racial remark really necessary? slinger Old Fart? I resemble that remark. noidea

I'd say hate crime is taking it a little far. Dude ought to tone it down a bit. Pursue charges if he feels strongly enough about it, but a federal hate crime for hollering a racial slur? Go on with that bullcorn! Gramps didn't harass him because he was hispanic... he would have harassed anyone.

Obviously the guy saw the name "Menendez" on his boat and made it a racial issue. I agree it was not a hate crime since no violence was involved.

Good on Menendez for pursuing this.

Being a crotchety old man is one thing, but going after him in the boat and making remarks about his last name? That's taking it way too far and the old guy needs to be held accountable for it.

I had a similar incident while fishing a working mans on Lake Houston. Found a dock loaded with brush and managed to catch 7 shorts off of it in about 15 flips. Fished downs a ways and circled back to hit it again. Owner comes out and starts getting mouthy talking about how they were his fish and he feeds them and to leave them alone etc. I told him I had already caught 7 of his fish a few minutes ago. He said 'Well how do feel about yourself?' I said I'd have felt a lot better if they would have been 4lbs.
