Well we didn't have nearly the luck that we did last weekend. I think they drastically lowered the release rate at the lavon dam, and that affected the fishing. I launched at 4pm and fished until a little after midnight. Didn't get my first fish until after dark. Was getting bites but they just wouldn't take it enough to get a hook set. Ended up with 4 fish. Biggest was around 7 or 8 lbs. I've had worse trips but it was still very disappointing after last week.

I was there this morning at first light with a friend in his power boat, caught shad at John Paul Jones park boat ramp headed over to halfway between the Rowlett Road bridge and 190 bridge and drifted a pond on the end of an underwater point. Caught 15 in 2 hours and kept 3 over 4 lbs all of the keepers within 100ft of that pond. Marked bait everywhere we went but only had keeper sized fish cooperating in 10-12.5 feet.

Link to pond area,

Thanks for the info. Might have to try that place out sometime. I wonder if I could launch a kayak there at the dead end part of the 190 service road under the bridge

You can hop the curb towards the u-turn there and drive right to the edge of the water under the bridge. I'm never sure about the legality of that kind of thing.

Only a few hundred yards to John Paul Jones park and that is legal to launch from, that is usually where I launch to get to the other side of the bridge. Two reasons I can usually catch bait there and there is police, park personnel and lots of other traffic so my vehicle is fairly safe.

Spazm- Are you out there that late into the night by yourself on a kayak?

I set my first trotline (via my kayak) out there and managed to come back the next couple of days to get my catch (four total) which was quite nice given the hot weather.

Sometimes. I was alone this past Saturday for 2-3 hours after the others left. Alot of times I'm alone the whole time. It varies.

I'm too addicted to fishing to only go when others can come. And too addicted to go for as short of a trip as others. I rarely go for less than 4-5 hours.

I know that it's not the safest thing in the world but I don't fish to be safe. I fish to catch fish. If I wanted to be safe I would stay home.
