Give man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach man to fish, he'll sit on a boat and drink beer all day.

Belton is pretty much a waist of time, money, and effort. The fishing has declined so much and they don't know why. Some say it has to do with the commercial fishermen and all the guys he was buying fish from for those years he was out there. But the fact is not even the wardens and the marine biologist that have been out the for the past 2 years know what happend to the lake. In tell they do they won't stock it . I live 15 ins from there and won't fish it for cats. It more productive to go to Waco,Mexia, and Limestone. For the past 7-8 years it has been declining. It's not just the cats either it's all fish have dropped off. What lend the day and be lucky to get 15 if on a good day when I can go to Waco limestone and limit out in a few hours on chemdawgs cheese dough.

I know a lot of Juggers that get their limits of fish...rebait...go home drop fish off and go back for more.not to mention there's a lack of Wardens in areas so this can be done very easily. The same with rod an reel can be done but not by the average Joe fisherman. I personally think there needs to be a cut on limits after seeing lake after lake decline due in population. My personal beliefs though

A pole fisherman uses how many poles ?

Talking calmly here. I think the worst thing about jugs is the crazy amount of lake space they can gobble up day and night. I went to Texoma a couple of times during the winter and on one of the trips there we're jugs everywhere. In certain areas you just almost couldn't fish because they we're running all down the channels on every hump, on every point and along every ledge and it doesn't feel right fishing next to somebody's jugs. At certain times you had to even slow down just to weave thru em which I hated doing as well. I saw guides setting and checking jugs and regular fisherman doing it so it wasn't just a certain kind of fisherman, but it definately looked like a jug war was going on out there. Coming up with a fair solution is pretty hard I guess.

I don't know. I catch a lot of blues by accident on Belton while fishing for whites/hybrids. We catch a lot of whites and hybrids as well.
It takes some effort to pattern the fish and there is a lot of pressure on the lake but we do pretty well.
Wishin' I was fishin', and dreaming of beer

Lake belton is getting worse , harder catching bait and harder catching catfish and whites. Use to tear them up , mostly catch and release. Shad population way down and my old reliable spots littered with jugs. When you see thousands of yards each side of the banks covered with jugs in the good spots , it's hard to imagine how a fish could last a few years into a trophy. Comparing to a boat with poles is a joke, 4 rods vs 50 to 100 hooks soaking and paced out for 24 hr period . Let alone days and weeks at a time re baiting same spots. And I am not calling out anyone on here , but yes when the fish are biting some juglinners get greedy and harvest all they can get away with and we don't have much game warden checks going on. Couple bad apples and the damage is done , a lot more than can be done by a fishing rod or two. Use to run lines when I was younger , but with population increases and being more of a sport fishing type of fisherman I just know it's not what the lake can actually sustain .
