Voltage indicated doesn't move under power. Reads 8 volts. What is it going to cost if it needs an Alternater??

Mercury part probably $4-600 + labor if you don't do it yourself.

Aftermarket or rebuild part $1-200 + labor

Could also be the drive belt and not the alternator or the 100amp fusable link if you had a short in the battery or crossed terminals.

Simple test would be to check voltage at the big red lug on the alternator while running.

Check the alternator fuse
