Getting off work early (fingers crossed) and headed out for some Fri afternoon Tawakoni action! I normally fish Twok in the AM. Are there some different patterns for afternoon? I'm prob going to hit Sun point and maybe the humps. Is Cloud point worth it?

Did I see you guys at Sun Point? There was a pontoon, a white center console Fish Master, a smaller bass boat, and one other boat. All were covered up in sandies & some Hybrids when we rolled up sometime between about 5 to 6 pm. A little after 6 things seem to die down, and we had to head in at 6:15 to get the boat back in the stall before 7. My graph was showing rafts and rafts of fish thick as turds around a country schoolhouse. We came to the party late (we were over on a different part of Sun Point prior) but ended up with 6 nice sand bass, 4 undersized, a 17 in hybrid, and a nice 23 inch Hybrid that ate the actual hell-bender, all in about 30 minutes. I tried dropping down some slaps to them but I couldn't get them to bite on anything except pet spoons which was surprising as thick as they were. Wish my boat stall didn't close at 7, would have loved to see if they ever came up on top!

I have no idea what point we were at. We were in a black/white reatta. 2 hybrids was all.

Fish started top water about 7:30. Birds were working out from Holiday. Ended up with several sand bass and wife caught one big hybrid 21 inches . All caught on Moe's reverb tail spinners. We have even been trolling with them and doing alright.

man I'm yet to get on any top water action at Twok. I need to fish afternoons more often.

We hit it Sunday afternoon - took the wife and 12yo daughter out about 3 -7. Trolled with Hell-pets. Daughter caught about a dozen sandies and a striper - started making fun of her mother and me for not catchin as much...

good times. Hot - but the trollin seemed to keep it tolerable. We went out from Holiday to what I guess is a hump, they were right on the rise from about 27' - 17 ft. Kinda neat to ride over and see em on my cheap electronics, tell my daughter "ok, get ready, about......now!" and BAM.

You might able to tell I'm pretty new to the whole idea. Definitely need to learn more. A few questions if you guys dont mind:
How deep do the Hell-pets go? Is there a guide based on how much line you let out?
It would dive with the small Pet spoon (1/6 oz), but we couldn't make it dive with the larger one. Any trick for that? How much leader do you guys normally use? Any other tips appreciated!

Glad that your daughter out-fished you! That's great. It is hot right now, a good breeze always helps.

You seem to know quite a bit for someone who is new to the whole idea! I'm always trying to learn more... with varying success.
At the advice of a very nice gentlemen on this forum that I ran into out at Twok who goes by the name "Mix", I remove the front hook (he removes both I believe) from the plug and replace it with a lead weight (not sure what oz). This will make it run at least 15 feet, I know this because it will occasional get snagged at that depth. I do not think it goes down to 20, because I do not usually get hung up that deep. However, I think like you said, the farther you let it out, and possibly the speed in which you pull it, will have a variable effect on how deep it will go. I haven't figured out how to make it troll a larger spoon either, but it helps to use a really long leader between the Bender and the spoon.

I am in process of experimenting with the Lure Jensen Jet Diver, as well as the DD22 cranks (with a couple of grubs/spoons tied off above it on a 3 way swivel) to see how they perform compared to the Hellbender. I was able to pull the Jet Diver (20 foot depth version) Friday with a double wire rig behind it pulling a sassy shad and pet spoon. I only pulled it for a few minutes and broke it off in 15 foot of water. I didn't feel like re-rigging another so I just switched back to the pet spoon on a hell bender.
