I'm considering getting a big meatstick for heavy cover. Someone told me they like a moderate fast action with braid. Anyone have trouble breaking off with braid and a traditional heavy fast tip flipping stick?

For 300$ you can get a loomis Imx 7'11 in any action yo want. 4 or 5 power would be a good one. and if you want a 7'6 they make a glx or the imx 7'6. I'm a loomis fan though, and there are a lot of rod companies out there but this is just my suggestion.

Looking at dobyns mostly, maybe st croix. Dobyns makes a 766flip in the champion series but I'm not sure if that is overkill for braid.

I like the Dobyns Savvy 766 rod for flipping and pitching. I do it on 20#, but it has held braid before, too. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

765 or 805 Dobyns is what you want.

Not so much about BREAKING, its about tearing a big hole in their mouth and them jumping off...

But I like mod fast heavy action as well

Champion 765, DX 795 or 765, or Champion 805 if you want to punch. I use #65 braid.

I have a Power Tackle and an AllStar. To be honest I have caught just as many with no issues with the AllStar than the Power Tackle. Both are good rods based on my personal experience even though they are from opposite ends of the price range. My opinion is don't get wrapped up in thinking you need a high dollar stick but buy want you want and will have confidence in.

Always thought of flipping with braid, guess 20-25lb fluoro would do the trick.

I flip grass mats with a Dobyns Savvy 766 Micro Guide. I love it and it's more affordable. I like the micro guides for this one particular rod bc I believe they're more accurate for flippin and they make the rod a little lighter on you when flippin grass all day.

If you think you might tie a braid to fluorocarbon leader to get more bites or whatever I would get the one with standard guides bc the micro guides probably won't work as well with the leader knot. I had my heart broke a few times with a leader so I don't use one.

Good luck in your search, the savvy 766 is a great rod...

Take a look at Fitzgerald Rods. The guys that build them are Florida flippers and pull bass from the thick stuff.

I have a bunch of flipping rods, use flouro and braid, they are all either h fast, xx heavy fast or m-h fast for flipping light baits.

No issue with not having a mod fast.

I think my Glx mat punching rod might be mod fast, but might not. been a long time since i looked at the lable. And i don't use it a whole lot.

At 7'11 its alot of rod, i mainly use big fball jigs on it in deep water.

I flipped with 7'6's for a long time too, and still use them in really heavy deep stuff, but for real cover flipping i've gone down to a 7'3 it's just less rod to pitch with all day, and its easier to be accurate with, especially arounf low hanging trees etc etc.
