I am staying in rockport Aug 14 through 17. The place has a lighted pier. What's around those waters in august? I'm sure trout around lights but what else could I try for? Any tips,lure suggestions, hook size, live bait dead bait. Any helpful hints use appreciate.

what place are you staying at? I stay at the Kon-tiki in august generally. the number one night time target around the lights is trout. most folks fishing with spec rigs or with live shrimp although I've had my best luck using live finger mullet free-lined under a bit of a cork to help detect strikes. I would imagine your usual bay fish could be caught there. I've never caught any redfish of any size though, a few small black drum, a few flounder. small shark or two. not much else.

Trout are usually hot in August. I prefer plastics to live/dead bait because of how many hard heads are around this time of year. Good luck!
