I typically just use sonar and look at my GPS map when up front but I'm considering adding structure scan to the trolling motor. All of the installation jobs I've seen look really complex and like they might interfere with the trolling motor operation. I have the built in sonar on my Minn Kota so I'm not even sure how the transducer could be added. Also, I like to get way up in the weeds, timber, etc, and I wonder if that would just complicate things.

Do any of you guys use your trolling motor mounted down scan and if so, can you point me to a bracket or give me some insight on the best way to install it?

Thanks for your help,

Jackson

I just installed a Garmin 93SV on the front of my boat. I was also concerned about the abuse i tend to put my trolling motor through. I contacted Product Innovations, the makers of transducer shield & saver. The mounting bracket they built for my transducer & trolling motor is rock solid & simple to install. I would recomend calling them & asking about your specific needs. The customer service was great. The products are top notch.

Yep pretty much impossible to mount a Structure Scan transducer on the trolling motor for a Humminbird unit. Structure Scan is a Lowrance product.

You can use a Humminbird SIDE IMAGING transducer on the trolling motor for a Humminbird unit. That is very common for those with Humminbird equipment.
Since a Humminbird SIDE IMAGING transducer has a 2D sonar crystal for 83/200 kHz there is no need to connect the US2 transducer--just a useless cable and connections.

I have been using Humminbird SIDE IMAGING at the bow with a trolling motor mounted SIDE IMAGING transducer since I first started using Humminbird SIDE IMAGING.

Depending on the model of SIDE IMAGING unit you get there are a couple of PROPER transducer setups for that application.

One is a trolling motor PUCK version of the Compact SI transducer that the smaller display models come with. I used one of those at first.
The other is the HDSI version with a trolling motor mount.
I used the HDSI transducer on my trolling motor with a Transducer Shield and Saver mount (best there is).
Starting this year, I use the ONIX SI transducer on my trolling motor with the Transducer Shield and Saver mount.

The large one in this picture is the Compact SI PUCK:

Thank you guys for the response. I also sure appreciate you setting a Lowrance guy straight regarding his SIDE IMAGING transducer mount. wink I'm shocked you even knew what I was talking about.

Thanks for the photos..... Off to look at the transducer saver website.

Transducer shield and saver if you are concerned about about. The ladies down there know the transducers etc for each unit better than anyone. Good luck

I had it installed on the trolling motor of my last boat. I didn't find the side imaging beneficial because of the rotation of the trolling motor. Down imaging was pretty cool.

You mentioned fishing shallow alot. I don't know if you have power poles or not, but if you don't they might be more useful.
