With the same torque numbers as the gas engine and a price tag that is north of $3k is it worth it?

At 180hp, it better get 40mpg.

Wow 180 hp and 370 ft lb torque is seriously underwhelming.

I would expect it to get significantly better mpg's than the ecodiesel as it is smaller in every dimension, lighter, has a 1/3 less displacement and about 25% less hp and torque.

Like samsonsworld said, if it doesn't get really good mpg's I don't know how it will fair, especially if the price is way out in left field.

they are trying to go head to head with the Tacoma. Toyota has not done much of anything with the Tacoma for 10 years and I think GM is trying to take advantage of that. They face an uphill battle because of reliability and resale value. Tacomas were once again tops in resale.

People buy little trucks because the initial purchase price is cheap. Otherwise, who wouldn't rather have a half ton?

cheap price only applies to the base model fleet trucks. Some people just do not need or want the bulk of a full size. Tacomas are real popular in certain parts of the country because of their off road capabilities.

I was always of the mind that mid-size trucks were poor sellers because they cost almost the same as their larger counterparts.

I love my Tacoma. Pulls my boat (Tracker 190) with no problem and I get 15mpg, 20mpg without. Reliability!!!!

When that didn't used to be the case, they made a lot of sense. S-10s and the older Rangers were great pickups (Dakotas not so much) when they were 2/3 the price of a new one. But at $31k, why wouldn't you just buy a half ton?

If this thing gets 35 mpg highway, it might have a shot. Otherwise, it's a non-starter IMHO. If you're going to spend that much and you're dead set on a light duty, then get a Tacoma. Personally, I'd rather have a domestic full-size than any of the ones we're talking about since it's the same price and much more capable.

See that's the problem. The little Tacoma get way worse mpg than any of the new full size trucks with way more capability.

And 50% more HP.

Who cares. Not everyone wants to pay 40+K for a truck. Tacomas are great because They just don't break down. Ive had mine since 2011 and the only issue Ive had is a bad battery and I drive the hell out of it. Pulls the boat just as well as my dads oilfield work dodge

This will compete if it gets 33 or better highway which it should. It's .2 liters smaller than the Ecodiesel and the platform should be close to 1000 pounds lighter.

Most of us pull trailers from 2 to 5 thousand pounds. This was made for us.
