To the kayaker I yelled at down in Estes Flats last week,

first of all I apologize for using an adult word, and shouting. I should have just picked up and moved.

Let me explain why I was mad. While you were 100 yds away from our boat, you were anchored downwind of a pothole we were fishing and were very close to the pothole. You paddled across the area the wind was drifting the scent of our bait through and we grumbled but kept quiet.

It was when you turned around and paddled back through our pothole that I lost it.

Anyway, I hope I didn't ruin your trip.

You should apologize how in the world he have known especially if he was 100 yards from your boat.

Fritz, nice of you to get on here and apologize, most people would never take the time or admit that just maybe they acted improperly in the heat of the moment. I agree with Hard Rain, how would someone know about your baited pothole and 100 yards is normally a acceptably distance (depending on circumstances) to give other fishermen.

I wish I would have yelled at the jet skiers that were driving around us last weekend. Those idiots came all the way up to the far north end of ray hubbard (we were in 4-5 fow) and passed within 20 yards of me. For some insane reason they went up into the river that feeds from lavon. It was so frustrating.

I felt "righteously indignant" at the time, but regretted it soon after. The guy paddled away after and we watched him go all the way back to the shore and leave.

Fritz, you're a stand-up guy. Everyone on here has spouted off at someone that got on their nerves a little too hard.

I assume you're talking about the NE arm of Sam Rayburn, north of Mill Creek? We used to have a place at Rayburn 100. We went twice a month, and I loved just being there. But I really loved fishing there. We sold it in '94, and I've only been back a couple of times. I miss it terribly....

Bass Art,

The only Estes flats that I know of is just north of Aransas Pass in the inshore saltwater

Fritz,

Most of the salty kayak guys chat over on TKF (texaskayakfisherman.com) if my assumption is correct.

You're right, bert. The area I was thinking of is called Easley Prairie. When the lake is full, it can hold a lot of fish.

I've heard of Estes Flats, too, but I've never been.

I've noticed that 100 yards is acceptable for freshwater. In the salt, they don't even want you in seeing distance.

Owning up to your mistakes and apologizing on a public forum like Fritz has done takes courage, IMHO. cheers
