C-Man,
I have no knowlege or experience with Legend boats, but as an accountant I can answer your question as to warranty. As a general rule, if a company goes under your warranty is pretty much useless. In a bankrupcy situation, you will be last in line to get a cut of whatever money the company has left. Your only hope would be if the company funds its warranty program through a separate company, and even then you are probably SOL.

However, IMO the possibility of losing the warranty would play a very small role in my boat choice.

Randy has a house right on the lake. Where I won't say so his dock doesn't get fished too hard but he is a class guy. I remember when the first boat shows came up after he took over the company and the boats were very nice then.

He is the best bass fisherman/boat company owner in the country.

Just an FYI about Randy's family. His brother Gary is the guy that that went to Crawford and took his fallen son's, Louis, cross from Cindy Sheehan's little display. I spent a day offshore with Gary in 2004 and I can attest that they are good people, and what I've seen of Legend boats, they reflect that.

I doubt legend beat basscat in customer service, just check with the JD power awards for the past two years....I think all basscat owners will agree with that. But I will agree with all the legend posts, they are great boats. if I not own a cat, I may be in a legend.

Yeah I agree about BassCat. I don't know if Randy was there but I do know that Rick Pierce was at the show because I talked to him.

Dont be fooled by the JD power award, they only consider the brands that pay them to be one of the surveyed products. Legend did not pay them to be considered for the award. Bass Cat won, but only against the boats that paid to be considered. I got this from a very reliable source. And yes Randy was at the show helping his dealer sell boats, and talking to potential costomers, ask Red Ranger, Randy gave him a tour of the boat.

I think both the BassCat and Legend boats are well made and both have top of the line customer service. It all comes down to which of the two boats you like the best.
I own a BassCat and a Legend would be my second choice over all the rest of the other brands out there.

I would have to get me a 4X4 with a lift kit on it to launch the white and purple Legend that was at the show.

Bah, let them fish his dock. About the only thing you can catch under there now is a squirrel or maybe a raccoon. That is if you can cast that far. laugh

I spoke to randy and to rick of basscat...I think the only complaint rick had about legend was that the legend plant was right in front on basscat plant. they are both down to earth guys and both have great boats.

C-man,
Drive a legend yourself and make up your own mind. Never listen to someone who spent way to much on their boat because they are always going to complain about other boats so they justify spending that much money.

Yes, you are going to get wet in a Hawk, oh I'm sorry I mean a Legend... I got tired of getting soaked in mine so I bought a new 20i Skeeter. Laughs aside the Legend has a really smooth ride, but not anywhere near the dry ride I have now.

I picked up my new 199 Alpha Series Legend in July of this year. It is well appointed and I must say very fast! I have no complaints at all. The new alpha series boats have a new hull design that is differnet from the older legends. The boat handles rough water very well and has a dry ride. As far as the customer service they are top notch. They are a young company and if they keep up what they are doing they will be a major contender in the next couple of years.

I took a test ride in a Legend once, and was not really impressed. I think alot of it had to do with the set up (motor and jackplate). It chine walked really bad and didn't handle crossing over the wake very well. It was a fast boat though and very well built, I do believe that they put quality into each one of their boats. I still bought a Skeeter though.

get a test drive with a legend and see for yourself....they are just fine. I fish out of a LE188 from time to time and I like it, I just wish it was the 21 footer. Like I said before if I had not purchased my basscat, I would have really considered a legend. probably not from any local dealer, I hear how they forget certain people when it comes to ordering their custom boat covers. I know of one person who bought their legend right at a year ago and still have not received the custom cover that was ordered.

Something fishy there, I ordered my cover and, Dean Smith (one of the owners) personaly brought it to me at the Legend tournament, 2 weeks after I ordered it. Legend does not make them they are made by Deans custom covers. As far as chine walking, if you have ever owned a bass boat ,any of them will chine walk if not set up properly, having said that, I have ridden in 5 differnt Legend boats and have yet to have one chine walk.As for being nose heavy, the hull design does not promote a high bow lift, however the boat will, get on pad in the length of the boat and handle well and dry in rough water. The hull design is also extremely fast.As far as sales they are producing 1 boat a day and can't stay up with the demand.Take a test ride and spend some time looking over the boat and its quality, you will be pleasently surprised.

www.deanstopandcanvas.com

not made by the same people as cobra,or hawk.hawk and cobra hulls were both designed by john storie.
the new Legend hull has been modified from the hawk designs and improved.
if you had a bad ride, must have been with someone that didn't know how to drive.
went for a ride with the owner Randy Qualls on Richland Chambers when it was very windy.very smooth ride and dry.
