Hey Everybody! This is my first post and just wanted to say this site is awesome and full of useful information.

Now onto my topic "Where have all the bass gone?"

I fish in a local club out of Wichita Falls. A few weeks ago we fished on Lake Graham-Edelman and only one boat weighed 1 fish out of 16 boats.
These are not just your run of the mill guys one of the tournament anglers holds the lake record for largemouth bass on Graham. I'm lost I fished my butt off all day
and couldn't for the life of me get bit. I threw almost everything in my boat during the tournament to no avail. I understand we have had a huge fluctuation in water
levels in North Texas, but that was almost 2 months ago. The water still looks like chocolate milk and the fish are nowhere to be found.

Today I went to pre-fish for our next club tournament on Lake Nocona and again nothing in the boat and no bites. I have seen tons of bait fish. On my way off the lake
I spoke to about 5 other anglers on the water and all had the same puzzled expression. Nobody can find the fish. Now I am sure they are there and I am sure some will
tell me I was doing something wrong. If that is the case I cant find any information on what to do when a lake goes from 22% to going over the spill way in less than a month.

Sorry for the long post. Just frustrated on the water and that's not fun fishing. Tight Lines.

Them green trash fish are probably out in the middle of the lake hanging out right above the thermocline and scattered all over the place which is good. It keeps them away from my catfish smile

Thanks for the replies fellas. Got a few things to try this weekend. I'm a clear water fisher. These Texas lakes have me scratching my head but I'll figure em out. Tight lines.

TB2007,

What club do you fish in Wichita Falls? I live here and a few of us guys were looking at starting one because the only one we knew of went away when the lakes dried up. If you could give me any info on it that would be great.

Thanks,
Kris

Did you try dynamite or an old crank telephone.

Usually catch some LMB in the cast net...have not seen one this year. We got two last Saturday in 32 feet of water, hanging out with Hybrids.

If you're not graphing groups of LMB in 20-30 FOW, try shallow an shallower! One of the problems might be the silt layer that is trying to settle choaking out things where a thermocline would normally set fish up. I have seen fish (and heard of fish being caught) in less than a foot of water this year even in 90 degree water on 100 degree days. Frogs, weightless plastics, heavy flipping rigs, and traps in grassy cover or around overhangs. Get it to the pockets on the bac lines of matted vegetation for some massive frog blow-ups!

I would go shallow shallow and even shallower as mentioned above in that muddy water. I would use a spinner bait with a copper or brass Colorado blade white or chartreuse skirt or a comb of the two. Drop the trolling motor and go fish, cover some water, and bank brush..
welcome to the forum, enjoy..

I suspect, as the others have mentioned that the muddy water is really killing the bite.. it certainly made the Colorado river near Bastrop a tough fish.. 6 miles of river fished by 9 good anglers resulted in only 6 bass. Water is still very stained especially along the bottom. That many fishermen on the river at one time usually results in a 100 or more bass (mostly smaller fish) but that isn't how it went last Saturday.. If the fish are use to clear water then it stands to reason they don't make the adjustment as quickly nor do we fishermen..
