Made a short trip to the Brazos today!!! It was mid afternoon when I arrived but got into fish almost immediately! Water was clear so to speak, more like a tannin stained coloration. Visibility was mediocre at best. Caught some decent sized stripers and hybrids beneath the dam. Got into some largemouths further down the river. Can't wait to float further downstream! Saw some big stripers but couldnt get them to take! Great day on the water and will give it a go again very soon!!! Tight lines!!!

They were taking clousers! Any shad pattern should work well. Nothing like a big striper on the fly! Where is Somerville Spillway?

Somerville Spillway is below Lake Somerville. It is about 25 miles south of Bryan / College Station.

No stripers in Somerville just hybrids.. half striper/ half whitebass.. In lake Somerville most hybrids if they live long enough top out at 10lbs. My biggest is about 7lbs but I've caught several in the 3 to 4 # class.. The problem with hybrids in many of the places they are stocked is when they are around the size of a good whitebass they are kept by anglers who can't tell the difference. To further complicate the issue the hybrids spawn along with the whitebass and some of those offspring survive to adulthood with noticeable hybrid traits but a tooth patch that says otherwise. I've seen so many variations in the tooth patch that if I'm not positive it is a whitebass back it goes.. not worth the hassle or the ticket..

Few people know about those f2 hybrids hook line good stuff. Those striped fish love me I can put a real wooping on them but can't stand to eat them lol. So I just give them an education to live a little longer:).

It is so nice having stripers back in the rivers. If more would practice catch and release on them in the rivers we will have fish for some time to come with recent releases. Got into the cash fast and furious tody took a bit to figure out why they shut down. Finally noticed the water dropping they shut the water down and turned them off.
