My youngest son and I had the pleasure of crappie fishing with Lane on my birthday a few days back. We booked a half day crappie trip. I have been catching crappie for over a half century and have never hired a fresh water guide, but had done my research. The advent of new high tech electronics, dockshooting and hunting crappie in the dog days of summer was calling my name. We met Lane just prior to 6 am and was quickly on the water. We knew that catching crappie in 100 degree days would be tough, but expressed to him our goals. He had us practice dockshooting on open water with good success......well other than my son grabbing a rod rigged with a slab spoon for white bass. Amazingly he learned on his 1st attempt at dockshooting with a slab spoon with that sharp treble hook that something was just quite not right, therefore ending his career of dockshooting with slab spoons!!!! No worse for wear, he picked up a rod with the proper jig and was making Pop proud. It is just breaking daylight and we are pulling a few slabs out of the darkness of docks. I am peppering Lane with questions about his electronics and he is patiently explaining what the side imaging is showing us on the screen. I am awestruck by the technology and clarity that jumps out of the screen, so vividly. Advantage to us anglers, but just because we can see the crappie under a given dock, does not mean they are ready to eat. If I did not catch a fish the entire morning my money was well spent by Lane teaching us how to use the awesome electronics, dockshooting, marking waypoints, fish brushpiles etc. He is an extremely knowledgeable crappie fisherman and willingly shares his skills. We worked brushpiles and shot some docks and a little bull, but mainly just had a great fishing experience as the positive energy on the boat, fishing with both my son and Lane made for a great birthday !!!! We managed 20 crappie on such a hot day, but we were not after numbers, but information. My last cast I caught a 15 pound Blue Cat on 6 pound test Mr. Crappie line, what a great way to end the trip. I highly recommend Lane as a guide, a very impressive young man.

I have never fished with him but know his reputation as one of the best ones out there for crappie and whites. I have dealt with him through purchases of his baits as well as meeting him at the last CAT Meeting and will say that he is a man of integrity and fishing knowledge. You can see those in him after just a few minutes and he was very accommodating with the questions I posed to him.

And as far as his baits, they are the most durable ones to use while dock shooting and the fish will jump all over them. They don't start tearing apart after 10 pitches and I have used the same baits multiple times over a couple of trips to CC. And this is not just on CC, Sunday I shot some Marina slips on Lake Lewisville using the White/Green Thump Chubbies and actually caught some doing this (yeah, blew my mind too!!!).

Lane is a good guide. It has been a couple of years since we fished with Lane, but still remember the lessons he gave us for catching crappie..... Thanks again, Lane.

Using the site for a while...this is really great to share fishing ideas and success with others.

I appreciate the kind words guys. Ya'll are going to trick people into thinking that I know what I'm doing.

Mr Rowe, it was my absolute pleasure to spend some time with you and your son out on Cedar Creek. All that talk about hunting season got my trigger finger really itchy. Thanks for making my job that much more rewarding!
