Nice! I know some don't like the idea of keeping any carp, but I think keeping some smaller ones, <8# or so, probably helps most fisheries. As long as they're put to good use and not wasted!

yah i know its kind of sensitive issue around here, i have kept the numbers of carp i have taken down this year, and have spread out to several bodys of water to try to minimize my impact as well as i have been using a large amount of gizzard shad this year with success. i personally prefer to use the invasive/stabilized common carp species as bait for the alligator gar and i tend to leave the buffalo species alone for the most part since they are native. i like the carp, i enjoy catching them and having my family catch them i respect them and appreciate their lives and i have released allot of them this year as well since i prefer the smaller ones and i have fished just for fun for them. since i lived at the beach and spent allot of time offshore i learned pretty much every fish is just a baitfish for another bigger fish. i dont want to call carp a baitfish but to the alligator gar they are just that. right now gar are eating buffalo, gizzard shad, freshwater drum and common carp in lakes and rivers throughout Tx

I might try eating some smaller ones in the future.I 've heard the smaller ones are the best to eat. Lake Travis has more carp than they know what to do with.Fisheries with healthy trophy size carp, buffalo are also the best for trophy bass.I think the naturalized common carp get confused with what is happening with the asian carp in the mid west.Naturalized commons seem to work well with the naturalized florida strain largemouth bass for a win/win.Brian when my house sells I'm rejoining the Carp Angler's Group again. Do you think a Lake Travis fish fry would fly?

There's nothing wrong with keeping carp to eat or even use as bait that upsets most around here. It's the bowfishermen who shoot them and let them go to waste.
I've heard they are good eating too but the bones are bad. I don't know how to clean them or I would try it myself.
