You should do the Thursday night fishing tournaments by Mariner sail. It's free. Good way to get to know other yakers. Ran by some awesome people.

Do what all the other have said, and read through the old topics in your spare time. You'll find a lot of answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet.

First of all, Welcome to the forum! welcome
Hooking up with some of the open invites on here would be a great start. Lots of good folks willing to give some valuable on water advice.

Thanks for reply I don't really have a specific type of fish I target I do a lot of different fishing depending on the location I guess. I have a pontoon boat that I fish from also and got the kayak to avoid the hassle of taking it out by myself and the cost of hauling it. From reading some of the past post I just need to spend some time out on the water in the kayak to get the feel for it.

Congrats on the kayak...it will change the way you fish. If you're on FB, check out the DFW Kayak Fishing. If you're not on FB, then I recommend you monitor this site and post up when you're going. There are almost always folks on here looking for fishing partners, and there is no better way to learn the ropes than by going with a more experienced 'yakker, IMHO.

welcome

Welcome to the plastic navy. Be sure to get yourself a PFD (wear it all the time while on the water) and a whistle so you're covered while out during the day. If you're going to be out past dusk then also get a 360 light. Check out proper kayak paddling techniques on youtube. I see a lot of people on yaks using improper technique. You'll get where you're going but it will take a lot less energy if you paddle efficiently. Start looking for a second job now to help pay for your new addiction. Enjoy! banana
