I live within 30 minutes of a boat ramp on Lavon but I have never been on the lake. I've always migrated to the east texas lakes, Texoma, and on daily trips to the small lakes in Fannin County. I realize Lavon has been very low for several years and recently flooded. But I'm wondering generally how the fishing on Lavon is or has been in the past. I've heard the catfishing is great but don't hear much about any other species. What is the scoop on Lavon for the following species? Feel free to add species if I forgot any.
Largemouth bass? Crappie? Catfish? .....Channel Cat .....Blue Cat .....Flat Head Sand Bass? Hybrid? Any Stripers?

You probably won't get much of a report from anyone since none of the ramps have been functional ever since all the flooding. My guess is the fishing won't start to pick back up until the lake stabilizes more. It's been a roller coaster all year. The bass fishing was great back when it was really low. There are a lot of sandies, but most of them seem pretty small from my experience. They stocked hybrids a long time ago, but they didn't take. You may still find one or two here and there, but shouldn't be a focus. Lots of big crappie and big cats, but I don't know anything about fishing for either of those. Your best bet for catching anything would be to continue heading to other east texas lakes until the water level starts to normalize.

Thanks for the info T. I like to explore new areas and learn new waters and was thinking about getting to know Lavon. With kids in sports etc I don't get much free time. But every now and then I'll get an afternoon where I can sneak away and do some fishing. I keep the boat ready at all times. I'll give it a go sometime soon and see what I can do. I'll primarily be after the bass and crappie.

I think Lavon is known more for Catfish and Crappie. While it does hold a good amount of LMB, Sand Bass & Yellow Bass. The lake is starting to stabilize and more fish are being caught. The main ones reported are blue & channel cats, Sand bass. I have some friends that live close to the lake and they are starting to catch sand bass from the shore again. I was thinking about heading out there this weekend but not sure yet.

If you are looking for white Bass, find the sea gulls.
