 how to catch gar in canyon lake??

I went out this morning and saw a lot of them hitting the water and rolling. Some were big. How can I catch some?

longnose gar right? i know there is a good population of longnose gar in there..one of the best ways to catch longnose gar is a simple rope lure and get some sciccors so you can cut it out of their mouths once you land them https://www.google.com/search?q=gar+rope...gIVTNOACh2vzQaA

Also try cut bait (sunfish, shad) a foot or so beneath a popping cork...
Will have a hard time hooking them, but a "QuickTime" rig may help.
