After months of waiting out the high water I was finally able to get back into the Brazos and wade fish. The COE is letting out water and then shutting it down in a pretty predictable pattern right now. Until it changes. The pattern, at the 2114 bridge, is the water is low enough to fish from 9am to 4pm.
The river bed is scoured clean of mud, not a trace of silt could I find. Aquatic vegetation is gone - temporarily no doubt - and the bottom is either gravel or bedrock. Where it's bedrock the footing is very slippery. I wasn't wearing my felt shoes so I was slipping around like I was on furrowed ice.
The fishing was good. I caught several nice largemouth bass and a ton of bluegills. Big bluegills were in abundance. I could see large catfish but could not get them to take anything, and I threw everything I had at them. Saw some carp rooting around on the bottom, couldn't get them interested either.
But the bass and the gills, they were biting just fine. The water is clear but it has a slight yellowish-brownish kind of stain to it, a bit like tannin stain. The high water moved a lot of gravel around. One hole that I fish is pretty much filled in with gravel now, and one gravel bar is gone.
It was awesome to wade and fish again.

Below Whitney - about a mile below the FM 2114 bridge to narrow it down some.

Do you put in at the outpost and fish downstream then return or take out somewhere downstream?

I live down there on the river bank. I just wade out from my yard and then back in later on.
