According to this:

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2015/07/2...0/?intcmp=hpbt4

I can get what I paid for my 08 Dodge 2500 4x4 Mega Cab minus depreciation. That to me means no haggling over how much my truck is worth.
I bought the truck from a dealer, so that establishes the price I paid. I have to say, I love my truck and have absolutely had no issues other than some warranty work and regular maintenance. I bought the truck with 60K miles on it when it was two years old, and it now has 148K miles on it. I'm planning on retiring next year, and I can easily see the current truck lasting me forever, but I am obviously concerned with the reason for the buy back. I've never had a problem, but that is not to say it could not pop up in the future. I think I owe it to myself to see what the deal is, but I gotta tell you I have mixed emotions about possibly getting rid of the best truck I have ever owned.

Hey Cat I have a 2013 Ram 2500 and love the truck, but in the less than two years I have had it the check engine light will pop on when I pull the boat. It is getting old. So if they offer me a buy back I may be all in! I wish I had my old 2006 Cummins back!

I suspect I might have the answer to your problem. A turbo flush. They told me @ 98K when the check engine light came on that those trucks were meant to be run hard and long, and I had not run mine hard or long enough and the turbo innards were dirty and needed a flush. In hooking up for the flush they rounded off the pipe plug where they put the flush fluids in. They could not get it out so they put a whole new turbo on. No charge.... You might just need a good clean out of the turbo.

I am going to ask them about it this week. When it came on this time I was on I-10 running towards Canyon Lake, and then this weekend I did a trip to Livingston and back. According to the codes it needs a software update and only occurs under load. It's a fricking diesel, designed to be under load, duh!! I think the extra [censored] on the emissions side for 2013 has bit them in the rear.

From a money standpoint you could sell it back and buy another for less money. I'm sure such a recall will lower the price of the trucks.

That said, if it were mine and was as good as your's seems to be (KC), I'd ask them to do any necessary fixes and just keep it.

I agree with allison - I'd get them to make the fixes and keep it.

I seriously doubt the buy-back offer will be appealing. On lemon buy-backs from other manufacturers, I've heard of figures such as 15 cents a mile used. If they go with that, it means 90k miles times 15 cents is $13,500 just for mileage. Another ~$20k due to it being 7 years old and you're talking $33k less than you paid. Do not be surprised if their first offer is in this range. I can't see how there wouldn't be haggling over the buyback price. There always is. They have to offer a buyback. It doesn't have to be a great offer.

I'd keep it if it's been a good truck.

1. You can do nothing and keep driving it.
2. You can get it repaired and keep driving it.
3. You don't have to do the buyback and can keep driving it.

Easy peasy.

I would have to know what they were offering for the old one to even begin thinking about that.

What exactly are they going to replace? If they just fix I what happens if you want to sell the truck later?

In all the stuff I have read they just mention front end problems. What exactly are the saying the issue is? Not to bash but I've know lots of folks with Dodges that had front end issues.

That is the option that I am leaning more toward. This has been the best truck I have ever owned, regardless of brand. With 148K on it, she consistently gets better fuel mileage than it did at 60K. With the cruise set at 78 I get between 18-20 all the way to Rayburn, from Houston. Towing the boat I'm getting 17. I'm making it there and back on less than a half tank of fuel and with prices hovering around $2.50 gal, the round trip costs me less than $50.

The article on the net said the buy back was what you paid for the vehicle, minus depreciation. Depreciation has to be the same for everyone. It seems to me you should be able to work two separate deals. The Buyback is coming from Fiat-Chrysler, not the dealer. So, the possibility exists that Fiat-Chrysler buys it back and then you are free to buy whatever you want. In my case it would be one just like mine, with maybe a few less options.

The issue is steering problems. There have been a total of Five separate recalls, and apparently enough folks were unhappy with repairs, that Fiat-Chrysler agreed to the buy back. In my case, three of the recalls have been implemented, and two have not. I'm going to make an appointment to get the other two done this week or next week.

It's there all day long. Best ever was on a trip to SD where it did 22 running almost 80. The fuel MPG is better today than it ever has been. I put a can of sea foam in about every 4th tank and that tank the mileage goes down, then it starts working it's way back up. A Sea Foam Tank will do 16.5/17, then the next tank will be about 17.5, then it's back up to 18.5-20. It certainly ain't 5.9 mileage, but it's better than the competition.
