Has anybody figured out a decent way to run an external transducer mounted to the trolling motor because I have tried several ways, none of which are very great?

I'm in the same boat as you are.The only thing I've found is using the coiled air compressor hose.Have'nt tried it yet but they say it works but it aint pretty.

Yeah it is the only thing I dislike about this motor. The spot lock feature is far better than I ever expected it to be but I am just waiting to get too much slack and the prop is going to cut the cable.

Bass Pro told me you dont want to add an external transducer to the i5 because the transducer cable will get damaged from the motor turning the way it does. I mounted my console and bow sonar tranducers on the transom. Not the best situation but I cant afford to upgrade my HDS unit allowing me to use the built in transducer on the i5. I love the t/m but I still havent been able to get the foot control to work

Unless you are referring to the Gateway and backbone connections Your HDS unit will work with the built in Tducer. If the plug is different there are adapter cables to utilize the built in Tducer but the Tducer is 2D only. My Lowrance 5HDI fits the Xi5 plug.
As far as the Fpedal did you try syn. within the 10 second time frame? It took me a couple tries to get it right.

I even considered not having downscan and just going 2D but the trolling motor I bought did not have the built in transducer so I am just going to have to deal with it. Pretty [censored] poor design on Motorguides part for a $1500 unit

I just got my xi5 installed. How do you guys like it besides the issues with installing a transducer on it? I'm going with the coiled hose idea. I ordered some 1/2" ID coiled hose. Going to run a LSS-2 and a pod transducer on it. Hopefully it works. Testing unit out tomorrow.
