My son enlisted in the Navy and leaves in January. He has always wanted to go shark fishing so I'm going to try and take him before he leaves. The only time the whole family can go due to work and sports is November. Probably right around Thanksgiving. Is this a good time for shark fishing and does anyone have any guides to recommend ?

November might be tough for large sharks. I know nothing about shark fishing. I'm not even sure what would be considered a large shark. Do you think all shark fishing would be slow that time of year?

What area are you looking for? We saw a huge bull shark this morning. We had a shark charter last week and had 5 runs that were massive fish.

Shark fishing in the upper coast slows down during the colder months because most of the common species like black tips and bull sharks migrate to warmer water. Now, that's near shore. I'm not sure how water temperature affect sharks in deep water, but I would expect it to be similar.

Used to go on several times a year to Galveston on guided shark trips. We would typically go 2-8 miles out and catch black tips common size from 20-60 pounds. June to mid September was the best time. I wouldn't know who to call now. The guides we went with would all be 65 or older now and likely retired.

I know nothing about it but my son has always wanted to do it. It may not be doable that late in the year. I figure catching anything would be cool. We live about as far from the Texas coast as possible and still live in Texas. If I go to Galveston it takes about 10-11 hours if I don't find traffic or get lost. Usually 14+ to get to South Padre.

I have caught about 100 sharks by accident fishin the rigs in louisiana. It is real easy to catch a shark but if you can get to the deepsea I gaurantee you will be on some sharks that will bite your line in half no problem! If you go on a charter say for tuna or some offshore fish just sneak on some bloody bait and nail you one in the head. take some 100pound steel leader and cut his jaw out for trophy.
