How shallow does the first sandbar get around galveston and bolivar? how deep does the gut get before the sandbar? I am 5'7'', can i wade out to it with out having to swim?

To get to the first sandbar, you should have no problem wading unless the surf or tide is abnormally high. Normally the gut before the 1st sandbar is a foot to maybe 3 feet deep depending on where you are at on the Texas coast.

First bar isn't that deep. I'm six foot and can usually get to the second bar with water to my chest. Third bar is where you start swimming.

ok thanks for the info. And one other question, could i catch any fish casting onto the sandbar with a lure or something or shold i stick to fishing the guts?

I have caught fish over the sandbars and in the guts, but I have caught many more fish in the guts. I catch the most trout in the 2nd gut.
