I recently swapped from a 1988 150 Rude to a 1984 150 Rude. The 1988 blew up.

I put the prop from the 1988 on the current motor and now I wonder if it is the wrong prop size of the current motor. Motor runs great but the hole shot stinks. I have to set a person up on the deck to get it to plain out. I can only get 4500 RPM WOT. I have a 1986 18 ft Skeeter with a jack plate. The current prop is 14 1/4 x 21

You have something besides the prop causing problems if you can't get on plane with a 21.

Thanks Pat,
I just rebuilt the carbs to service manual specs.
New power pack on port side
New plugs
New thermostats

I believe this is a fuel restriction problem. Could it be the check valves under the carbs? Anything else I should look for? Last night I pulled the carbs and let them set in carb cleaner for 45 minutes. I blew out the jets with compressed air. Everything looks good. I'm not sure what to look at next.

Been good! Hope all is well on your side. We have all had so many concocted stories of your disappearance. I was going with abduction from aliens, you know probing stuff grin

Either way, hope you get the motor/prop issue fixed and I hope your getting in some fishing time!! thumb

Pard that is a 30 year old factory low compression motor and the 84`s do not run as good as the 88-89 I promise. Reason the 88-89 run better, they were cheater motors for when Bass had a 150hp limit. Test have shown them to put out 175 to 185 hp. I still have the 89 GT 150 if you find out you need a motor.

I had a laugh yesterday. A buddy in Waco gave his brother a prop for his bay boat. The brother called and said it "aint working right..I cant get it off the trailer."

It was a counter-rotation ( left) prop. roflmao
