Almost all soil conservation lakes are stocked with bass and catfish. The county agent's office should have maps with locations of soil conservation lakes(ponds) in your county. At least that is the way it used to be.

The NRCS (formally Soil Conservation Service) office for the county has maps with locations. They are the ones that oversee the lakes, dams , and easements on these lakes. Most of the lakes have one or more landowners that control access to sites.

I found the site and the map option but it kept gltiching on my Phone. I will have to do it on my laptop when I get a chance. More than likely if land owners are involved the public would not be allowed is what I'm thinking. Thanks for the help!

I have fished some in Ellis and some in Hill Counties, and when I asked the landowners for permission to cross their property to access the water, most of them had no problem with it. some you had make sure gates were shut so cattle or other livestock would not escape, almost all ask that any trash created be removed, and so on. The ones that said no, for the most part were civil about it, a few explained why not, and their reasons made sense, for the most part. One lady laid several caveats, including gates, trash removal, etc., and then said if I caught any fish, to bring her some. I not only gave her some fish I even filleted them for her. She was happy and said thanks to me, she and her husband were gonna have a fine fish fry for supper!
If you don't ask, you will never know!

anyone know of any public sites that carry largemouth bass ? Which ones are you looking at? Its been my experience that they all fish differently. I've yet to figure one in particular out but I know it holds fish. A different one nearby is pretty easy to find fish.

Most of these lakes are not public.
Many of the lakes that Salex has with this private water company are mapped as soil conservation lakes but the public cannot access them.

Both of the lakes at North Lakes park in Denton are soil conservation lakes, have bass, and are public. Both of the National Grasslands locations are public and have soil conservation lakes. Lots of lakes in the grasslands. Some right off the road and some you have to hike to.
