I have a an old 14' v bottom aluminum boat that I restored a couple of years ago. It has oars and I've taken it out a couple of times. I'm tired of rowing, so I'm looking for a motor. I will be taking it on local freshwater lakes in NE Texas, Sw Arkansas, and SE Oklahoma. Speed is not a huge issue. I just need to get to some fishing holes. I'd like something that sips gas, is reasonably priced, is light weight and runs as quietly as possible. I'd prefer used as I really need to watch the budget (I'm a music minister and my wife is home schooling our sons). I'm thinking that a 5 hp, water cooled engine will work from what I've read. I'm totally new to this. What brands would you recommend? Where should I look? What else should I consider? I can't wait to get the boat in the water with my 2 boys. I only have 2 years before the older goes to college.

I've moved to Oklahoma. It was a job, but I got the vehicle registered and now have a title. Does Texas allow boats with Oklahoma numbers on its lakes? I know Oklahoma allows Texas registered vessels.
