I have fished quite a few of their tourneys and they were ran well. Why has the turnout in these trails plummeted so much in the N.Texas area?

They run a good trail and have good people running the ones I have fished.

I think they had less than 5 boats at the last BNB @ Fork.

I don't know about the other lakes but I do know that there are many (including me) that don't like stringer tournaments on Fork.

Not all their tournaments ran as smooth at they appear.

This may have something to do with it.... the tournament angler has way to much to choose from these days, so if a particular trail is fishing a lake folks don't like they can easily find 3 or 4 others the same day on lakes that fit their eye. IMO doesnt matter how well they are run , as long as tournament trails remain content with 10-20 boat tournaments and continue to add divisions despite the weak turnouts the fields will remain small and inconsistent. Again, just my opinion from my own observations over the last 11 years.

BLT Divisions
Belton/Waco
Del Rio
Fork
Ft Worth
Hill Country
Houston
Longview
Marshall
OK SOuth
Bass n Bucks
Platinum Team Trail

Media Divisions
austin
Central Individual and Team
Cowtown Individual and Team
Deep East Individual and Team
Northeast Individual and Team
Cowtown West
East
Fork
I-35

JC Outdoors Divisions
Tyler
Texoma
Fork Team
Fork Solo

Bass Champs Divisions
North
South
East
Central

Texas Team Trail

Team Trail Outdoors

South 40

ABA

Plus you have opens, Hourly tournaments, workingmans, and benefit tournaments. (I'm sure I left a bunch out)

Each division has at least 4 tournaments, do the math and it equals watered down.

They have also fell off on Toledo Bend. Pretty sure this year is the last year for BassNBucks on Toledo Bend. Brian (who usually handles the weigh-ins) said it is done and he is going to take over the BLT

Ya I think they are trying to accommodate all the guys that bitch about not having a tournament on there area lakes. To much satisfaction = the other half bitching about to many options.

It's a Win win.

Its a business at the end of the day. Every tournament is a profit.

Anglers,

Our plan for next year will be to offer fewer BLT team divisions with 5 tournaments per division in the spring, provide Bass N Bucks divisions in the summer with 3 tournaments per division and we will provide Solo divisions in the Spring, Summer and Fall leading up to a fall solo championship. The number and location of the divisions are yet to be determined.

Just a side note based on the comments made so far.

* Anglers are very divided on two basic concepts:
1) Some want high entry fees and some want low fees
2) Some want to fish only a couple local lakes in a division close to their homes and others prefer to fish a variety of lakes in a division.

We have tweaked our program over the past 5 years by trying to give the anglers what they have asked for in each division. Overall, many of our divisions are doing just fine and others have yet to pull the numbers we would have liked.

We appreciate those who have supported us and we are working hard to attract more anglers.

The high school and college tournament programs are experiencing tremendous growth. This will spill over in a few years to improve participation. Lots of dad's are boat captains in these high school tournaments.

Contrary to what some anglers may think, we appreciate criticism. Our goal is and always has been to provide quality fish care and well run tournaments with a good payout for anglers to enter.

Thanks for the comments.

USAFT staff

There are only a finite number of hard core tournament fishermen and I think that number is falling as the number of tournaments is rising and the cost of fishing increases. I would be curious about the total number of guys who fish every tournament on the trial or trails they fish in Texas. I would think that would be a fairly small number.
