I will be heading down to Kerrville, Tx this weekend and would like to do some fishing from the yak. I've hunted down in that area plenty, but never really got out and fished anywhere around there. I'm not sure where the best places to launch around there are. Does anyone have any recommendations? I plan on targeting bass. Thanks in advance.

There is a nice lake right in town, with a public ramp. Check goggle.

I haven't really ever payed too much attention but my in-laws live close to junction so I've fished parts of the Llano River and had pretty decent luck for bass...I don't know if it rolls through Kerr County or not but it's a thought. Good Luck and let us know how it goes and where you go fish

All good advice. I always camp at the Kerrville Schriner park and launch from their ramp. Don't forget to stop in The Lakehouse Restaurant and see Pop1655 (Mark). Best food in town!

Lake New Ingram is nice, and has a good ramp, just west of Ingram on 39. You can paddle upstream about a mile. Nice bass in there. Old Lake Ingram has no ramp, but you can launch from the dam on Indian Springs(?) Road. Big gar and bass. There is a county park on the south shore of Flat Rock Lake, with a free ramp. Good fishing lake. I never did well at Nimitz(the town lake in Kerrville), but others do. Two nice ramps, one behind Chili's and one almost down to the Lakehouse Restaurant. The owner of that fishes there a lot.

Wish I still lived down there. IslandJim

This is one of my favorite kayak trips. Go stay at By The River RV park in Kerrville. Then call Corey at Kerrville Kayak and Canoe and have him come pick you up in the morning and take you up river west of Ingram where 39 goes over the river. The Damn store in Ingram is a good place to stop and get more fishing fuel (beer) and a snack. You can paddle right up to your camping spot and retire for the evening.

quick note:
I'd also say the lighter the tackle you use, the more fun you're gonna have.

Very true... I usually just take my ultralights and a fly rod.

I would not consider Ingram on the weekend, it can get crazy! Nimitz in town (behind Chilies or by The Lakehouse) is a good choice. I like the cover on Flatrock (Schreiner Park)but it can get windy plus the use of motorized boats on the weekend. BTW, Strike King Itsy Minnows crawdad and Zoom Jr Flukes watermelon.

I'll be out with the wife, on Nimitz, trying out the new Jackson Saturday morning and will keep an eye out.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the tips. When I set out on my journey, I had grand plans of getting things ready for deer season and then relaxing with some fishing. Unfortunately, I spent the majority of the time fixing broken feeders, a busted blind, and parts of our road. I guess the weather got big down Kerrville way also? I did get to fish Johnson Creek behind our house, and managed a half a dozen or so small bass; but that little creek is better suited for a cane pole for Bream. (Also fun). Hope to get out on the water more next trip in October. Can't wait to be able to explore this beautiful country more from the water. Thanks again.

BassAggie" I lived in Johnson Creek RV Park for two years. The fish there(catch & release) had seen all the tricks. If they saw you, you weren't gonna catch one. Another good kayak paddle is the North Guadalupe just north of Hunt. You can launch at the Mayhugh Crossing bridge and go about a mile downstream to a dam. Good bass fishing in there. I portaged the dam once and went all the way to the low water crossing just across from the Habitation(?). A few rapids and low water crossings, but interesting. I wouldn't do it again, but the upper part is great and you probably won't ever see another yak there.

Good luck when you get back down there. I'm going back for a quick visit next month, but it won't be a fishing trip. I'm looking forward to revisiting Gibson's in K'ville. And ChinaTown. And Billie Gene's. And Guadalupe Bar & Grill
.
