Fished the Sabinal Valley a couple of weeks ago and it was fishing in Paradise. The water in the Sabinal River was crystal clear and there was lots of it. The fish were also very active. Caught several nice Redear in the 9"range,Bluegill in the 8"range,and Redbreast in the 7 to 8" range. All the fish were healthy, fat, and full of fight. Caught a nice fat Redbreast that was 8.50" and it's girth was 7.75". It was a heavy fish. The fish was weighted on location with a certified scale and it's weight was .55 Lbs good enough for the Sabinal River Redbreast Record. Certificate arrived the other day. Fished from 7am till 3pm. The bite slowed down around 1pm. Caught around 50 nice fish and all of em were released including the record Redbreast. Fish were caught holding next to drop offs and grass beds. Fish were caught on both worms and Berkley Trout Worms-natural color. A great day of fishing in God's country. It just don't get any better! fish

You seem to have to process down in applying for a record. I've never really thought hard about getting into records but I know I could have a bunch on the fly by now if I knew the process.

The process is very simple. eeks The hardest part is locating a certified scale. bang You may want to consider getting your own scale and having it calibrated by an approved scale company. coolio You need to have it calibrated once a year to keep it in Parks&Wildlife's regulations. hmmm I have a super friend of mine who weighs all my fish! She also lives on Lake Dunlap. thumb

So it's about weight? Is there a separate length category?

If I were to submit records, most of mine would be C&R or end up swimming in my living room.

Guess I should go to their website and see the rules... But it's nice to get a perspective from someone who has experience.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, I started a new one about this.

Congrats again on your record...

There is also Catch&Release Records. The Parks&Wildlife web site has a chart of the minimum lengths a fish has to be in order for it to be a Catch&Release Record. For Sunfish it is 10". coolio
