There are bass in there, empty shell casings, and plenty of used syringes.
Reports say most bass are on the small side like 2#'s, some good cats too.
Lock your truck at the ramp for sure.

Have seen big fish, just never at the end of my line. Highly regarded by myself and a few friends as one of the toughest holes to wet a line in around dfw. I'd seek amusement elsewhere.

Added benefits of maximum likelihood of both being harassed randomly by officers AND having your vehicle broken into... Solidly poor experiences to be had there all around haha

I was out about a week ago just bank fishing in the evening. There was a rumor that the boat ramp was closed and it appeared to be . . . with one of those straw rolls run-off things seen around construction sites set out across the ramp, no boats in sight.

With so many other lakes closed or having limited access for boats owing to high water, this is simply horrible planning and timing by someone. Passive Aggressive?

Fishing there? Actually, not bad from the banks. I used to fish down by the ski jump area and just parked my car up in an area off the 820 access road there. Now, though, I drive through the main campus entrance, take a left, go through the paved parking, then park in an overflow area. One can walk straight down to the water about 50 yds. away. That recent very large bass was caught there near the tree near the point looking off and across the water to the ramp area. Too, if you are bank fishing and park up there, when you leave through the main entrance/exit, you have access to a ramp that puts you right back on the highway back in the direction of Lake Worth.

In general, the bass are small, look a bit under-fed and seem to run in the 12" range for the most part. Then, the occasional lunker. I have never caught the latter.

Just a guess that lots of fish there are harvested for the dinner table. At least, I have visited with many out there who are definitely carrying fish home.

Boat traffic? On some days, a few ski boats, recreational boats, a few kayaks here and there.

I have never seen a game warden out there.

I have never seen a security officer working around the accessible banks. I have seen one of their vehicles cruising around just making visual contact. I think their interest is more in protecting the college and its parking area up to the north of the lake.

I have never seen any bad actors out there nor have I witnessed any crimes. Near the southeast boat ramp, there are often a few car loads of high school or college kids swimming or floating around listening to music, then usually around a dozen or so bank fishermen spread out around the lake.

If there is crime out there, I doubt it exceeds the statistics of other lakes. Maybe, the general access for a quick get-away on the highway would make it vulnerable. I just haven't experienced it, heard of it or seen any of it.

Some issues? I don't recall many, if any, trash receptacles. There are no water fountains nor are there any places to go to the bathroom. The lake perimeter is often fairly trashy; people just peel off plastic this and that, cans, etc. and leave them on the ground.

A good place if you live nearby, I am 18 miles away by highway so about 20 minutes, to go out and experiment with tackle, drop a kayak/canoe in the water, etc.

B-Rad, that's the whole reason why they are closing the other ramp. They are making it better, and putting in a restroom.

Don't waste your time. The worst part of the whole deal is the people swimming around the ramp with their kids. The sign there clearly states no swimming on or anywhere near the ramp but they do it anyways and look at you like you're a jerk and take their sweet time moving. Sometimes you may get in an argument with one of them and then they vandalize your stuff. Totally not worth it.

I live less then a mile from there and fish it often after work and what not. Have caught few 5+ lbs there plenty of 2-3 pounders fishing there is good when hitting the right pattern.. Never had any type of vandalism. The people around the boat ramp and kids swimming happens more so in the afternoons fishing there in the early morning hours is quiet and kinda nice. Especially for free boating and fishing.

If u plan on fishing it I have had most successful days using a black blue or grape or electric blue 10" gambler ribbon worms on a Texas rig dragging/hoping the bottom. Also had OK fishing flipping a jig into the thick cover near the boat ramp.

Glad to hear they are adding a bathroom. I sure hope they maintain it!

Nicholas, I have had my best luck out there just in terms of catching fish, though again not big ones, using either a weightless worm or a 1/0 drop shot rig. I ran into two men out there the other day and they fish it at night from a boat and mentioned pumpkin and blue fleck as the "go to" bait colors as I recall.

I also ran into Jaciel (SP???) and his son, Benjamin, who caught that big bass several months ago. He was using spinning gear and what he called 8 lbs. crappie line.

*** I think a lot of the negative "meme" related to Marine Creek and thugs/drug dealers/thieves isn't actually experiential . . . but likely some folks just repeating what someone else has said maybe years and years ago. This happens all the time with fishing related venues and gear. Here it, then repeat it as gospel.

For sure, no, Marine Creek isn't a great fishing lake. It won't feel like fishing the really great Texas lakes. It has its moments.

Again, I use it to get out of the house, maybe experiment with new gear. Tough fishing is more challenging, after all.

As with any lake if you put your time in on Marine Creek you can be rewarded. I've fished that lake a lot, love it because the water is normally cleaner than all other DFW lakes. I caught my PB from Marine Creek two weeks ago, 10.47lbs. There are good fish in MC, despite what the naysayers say.

It's an Operation World Record lake, where 10+ are caught on a regular basis bolt

Right now the only ramp open is off ten mile bridge rd. They have the other side near the college closed for "construction". The only time the lake is completely shut down is when the ski club is having a big event which is only a few times a year.
