just getting around to posting this been a few weeks, but finally caught my 1st drop shot bass on a 4" morning dawn roboworm in about 20' of water. after throwing a 6xd for about 20 mins or so and nothing picked up the drop shot.what made it better was that I was graphing looking for some fish and found what I thought was fish lol and told the girlfriend hey come up front to show her you can actually see the bait go down on the graph and Boom it landed right in the middle of a school after a little teaching her how to fish it pulled up felt a little pressure and set the hook on a healthy 3.6lber. was fun since its been a long time since I have even caught one on a spinning reel.
Not my thing to drop shot but seems like fun and i'm not a deep water fisherman but seems like the way to go when they get finicky.
will drop shot more from now on.
Next up wacky worm fishing....

You tournament guys don't need to worry not gonna start tourney fishing lol.

Oops almost forgot about the girlfriends dropshot bass, told her to throw her dropshot by this log and bout a minute later she went to hollering I got one and she caught her 1st drop shot bass also a solid 10" and had another one hang her up...

Very nice! Sounds like the deep summer pattern is settling in.

I hope you master the hangup recovery better than I did.

Glad to hear that you're getting it down Jeff! Wish we could have found time to get out there and chase the DS fish together.

I don't know that the drop shot is the best pattern for tournament fish this year. The slot-to-under ratio has been far too high for me to like it for tournament fishing. I think it's hovering around 5-to-1 and it's normally more like 1-to-5. Not sure if it's that there are less unders in the lake, fewer of them out deeper, or if I'm just putting it in front of the wrong fish.

Re: hangup recovery mastery... grab one of the 2 oz. Finch Nasty Knockers from the Minnow Bucket or the LFT shop in Emory. If you see me out there, ask me for one and if I have one to spare, I'll give it to you. I have fished all day with the same drop shot on several occasions and I get hung up a lot more than the average Joe. The key is to be on top of the bait when you send the Knocker hunting, and then to pop your rod tip to let it work the hook/line free. Sometimes it's instant, some times it takes a minute or two.

Congrats! I'm looking to get into fishing drop shot. Always a good feeling to catch one on a new technique.

I just started fishing drop shot this year, I'm definitely sold on it. Now I need to figure out how to accurately read my electronics and start fishing deeper.

I've been "learning" to drop shot and using the more traditional finesse technique with the 1 to 1/0 hook and relatively small or thin baits.

But, I saw a video where one pro bass fisherman mentioned that it works very well with a really big worm, a 10 or 12" worm on heavier line, a 4/0 hook or around that size, and a larger sinker to feel the bottom. As I recall, he said those deep fish might look the other way at small offerings but jump on a big meal.

It might be fun to experiment with a big drop shot rigging in deeper water using electronics to drop it on their noses.

Brad
