A few months ago my wife and I had an emergency and I sold all of my fishing gear to pay the bills. I had been using a Lews Laser MG and a Cabelas Prodigy rod and was pretty happy with it.

90% of my fishing is bank fishing ponds and lakes in the North Dallas area, but occasionally I go out with a buddy to fish at power plant lakes and Tawakoni.

I split between worm fishing, (Texas rig and Carolina), and tossing crank baits.

What is a good Rod and Reel to buy locally for less than $200? Preferably $150 or so. Ive been shopping online at BPS and Cabelas, but its just gotten too confusing.

Look for a rod in the 7 foot prolly medium heavy and a reel in 6.4 ratio...should be all around good for plastics top waters spinnerbaits etc

I ended up buying a Bass Pro Shops Qualifier and a Berkely E-motion 6'6" rod. The reel is good, I think I liked my Lews better, but the rod I'm not very sure about.

I paid $20 for it from someone on this forum though, so I know for the price it is decent.

OK, I absolutely did not like the BPS Pro Qualifier. I have no idea why. I know its 90% the same as a Lews and I loved my Lews.

And I was skunked 3 days in a row fishing with it, so maybe that helped.

I exchanged it yesterday for a new model Citica and that reel is ridiculous. Furthest casting reel Ive ever used. I was tossing frogs on the opposite bank last night. I ended up hooking 4 bass so the voodoo has been broken.
