I saw someone recommended Obie's lure retriever on here before so I bought one and it works great. I haven't lost another big crankbait. The first time I used it I actually pulled up a ball of junk which had the 8xd I had lost a couple weekends before that convinced me to get a good lure retriever

you want one with big rings to slide down your line and chains. the chains for me have been a pro and con with the daiwa it's nice compact has a reel to keep your line under control and chains. sometimes the plug knocker just hitting your crank will not just knock it free. those chains can grab the hooks and this is especially helpful when you are caught up in some line. heck sometimes you even get someone elses lure. wink but the bad part about the daiwa plug knocker is the small rings that goes over your line. the knocker can wrap around your line....this is a pain and i'm looking on trying to replace the rings to some larger ones. or just get one (like the other two pictures) with larger rings. Bass Pro sells one cheap with large rings and hooks. it just doesn't have a wind up reel but this is easy to get whether you use a kite winder or an old reel.

The one from BassPro works well and pays for itself almost immediately.

How do you guys use them. I've got one and have not got one lure back yet. I've spent 20 minutes before right over the top of where it was hung up and bobbed it up and down along with the rod and haven't had it knock a lure free yet. And have never had the chains grab the hooks either. Lost three 6xds last time out and spent a while on each one trying to get it back. How do yall do it?

I bought the lure hound and it's really hit or miss depending on what it's stuck on. That being said it pays for itself after you save only two lures, but for me I am looking to switch to one that has the chains so I can just grab the lure and pull it up rather than trying forever to knock it free.

two things one come from the the direction the basit was traveling.....sometimes they can't be knocked free facing them. if the plug knocker doesn't pop them free than it's hitting it from a different angle

I make these and they are pretty legit on crankbaits. Works about everytime on them. I even use them on my jigs and most of the time it works too. Might be willing to sale some if ppl were interested.

I keep a couple handy in the boat, and maybe in my pocket! I used the 2 oz and zip tied my swivel hook to the weight.

I tried some of the others and left them on the bottom with a crankbait!

I made my own with a dog leash. I cut the chain into 4-5 strips around 6-8 inches long. I put them on a snap ring and attached to around 30 ft of trotline and wound it up on a buoy marker. Most of the time it will either knock the bait loose, or the chains will tangle in the hooks and you can pull it free. It will mess up the hooks, but that is nothing compared to the cost of a CB.

Cost = about $4.00

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

I can't tell you how many cranks and other lures I've gotten back using the one with the chains.

They are amazing. Even when you get caught on fishing line.

I have tried the lead and chain knockers but have done better with the 18 ft telescoping retriever. Obviously they can't get as deep, but I very rarely have to break a lure off anymore.

Got two. Store-bought pole with squiggly end on it and a home made dog leash reel with big sinker & chains. Great insurance policy - haven't snagged a lure from the boat since I got them! Unfortunately, shore fishing is a much different story.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.
