when, costa rica it is sept/oct, got no clue when to find them here but really want to go try to boat a couple this fall

They are catching them about this time of year. The best time on the Texas coast would be from August till about the end of September (September being the best for me). Its always sorta of a gamble to strictly to fish for tarpon cause the certain kind of water conditions (small seas and fairly blue water but not always) . Your best area would be anywhere from around Chrystal Beach south all the way to Port Mansfield. Usually the farther South the better, say Port A south. We would usually hook one or two out of San Luis Pass in Sept. after Labor Day. on big free-lined mullet around the color changes. You can probably get more up to date info from the locals down there. You can try the 2coolfishing forum, they have Texas Tarpon forum. Good Luck

This next month down here in South Padre Island. Slow trolling a live mullet with the trolling motor or casting to schools with large jerk baits.
