I currently have an HDS 5 in dash HDS 10 ram mounted to side and HDS 10 on bow all gen 1 with LSS-1 Structure scan. Both 10's are networked together by the way. I've been seeing a lot of gen 2's coming up for sale with the gen 3's coming out and was curious what everyone's thoughts are on moving up. I've read and read and read online about both and still kinda unsure. I've heard for 30' and less people using different combinations of transducers and such to get the best quality. If I move up should I go with LSS-2 or stay with 1? Is gen-2 that much better for freshwater in less than 30' of water? Thanks for any input.

I have Gen 1 and Gen 2 units. The big difference for the is the speed of the Gen 2 processor over the Gen 1. Some people say you get better imaging with LSS1 but I can't tell much difference.

Thanks for the input Dayne. I think it's like TV's once you buy one its outdated. Now with 3D coming out that might be the kicker with gen3. But from everything I've read gen1/2 are in the same ballpark with small differences but nothing worth 3-4k.

My LSS1 works really good and my LSS2 works ok; but it doesn't give me the clarity that my 1 does. But I've read plenty of reports of guys having better lss2's. I'd just run your lss1 until it bit the dust and then buy a lss2.

These graph prices are getting silly. A gen 3 HDS 12 is $3,400 and the 3d ducer is another $1,000. I like the technology but I'm sitting it out; my old antiquated gen1, gen2 & gen2 Touch will just have to suffice until I find a pot of gold.

I agree 100%.... 5 years ago $1500 bought you the best graph money could buy. $4200 for 1 graph and 3D is crazy. I love my set up for sure I guess it's just the "want the new" type deal.

Heck yeah, I want the new too; but I want you to buy it first and let me know if it's worth it. grin You know what bothers me and it's kinda silly because it keeps getting better (not better is the cost). You spend that much money for an item and 2 years later it's barely worth squat because everybody thinks it's worthless because the new stuff comes out and it's so much better.

For sure.... The sales for units has to be dropping off though. Not to many people can afford 10k in graphs every year. Only people buying 80k boats financing 30 years gets those.
