Okay, I hate catching catfish. They're slimy and hard to unhook. In fact, if I see someone keeping them I tell them if they'll unhook it they can keep mine. So this morning I'm sunfishing with a Mepps Aglia. I find live bait boring and frankly, catfish rarely hit lures. Or so I thought. My first three fish were all catfish. Finaly got out of their area and began catching sunnies, but after the first three cats I nearly packed up and went home.

Biggest flathead I ever caught was on the SA River. I was fishing for sunfish at the time and was throwing the smallest size Bomber Fat A on a 7'6" glass ultra light. It was fun getting him to the canoe gunwale, but when I did all I could do was think, "Now what?" Cats can be more predatorial than most folks give them credit for. Especially if conditions are not conducive for their normal tactics.

Glad you got into the target specie, KJ! thumb

Been catching a lot of em this year. A lot of my friends are also catching a bunch. The Guadalupe River is loaded with some BIG Channels. Usually catch two or three each time we go out while fishing the Guadalupe. It's all part of Sunfish fishing. "You never know what you will catch while fishing for Sunnies". thumb

Side Note: Super Fight on Ultra Light. Also Mike "USMC-GY" caught the current Lake Dunlap Channel Catfish weight and catch&release record a couple of years ago while fishing for sunnies. The fight was one of the best I have seen. He almost got spooled twice. boxing

These were just your typical 10 inch stockers at a community pond, but still fun on a 5 1/2 ft ultralight Ugly Stick and 4 lb. line.

Im happy with anything pulling back. Many times my target species don't want to play ball so have to change tactics for other types. I'd rather catch something than nothing.

Love catching em but that is what I usually fish for next to white bass and stripe bass!
