Questions:
Trying to decide between the PA and the Propel. I like the basic features of the Hobie better but a little concerned about the lack of reverse. Weight of kayak is not an issue as I don't plan on hauling it much.
1) For those that bass fish on stumpy, mossy waters (i.e Rayburn/Toledo Bend, etc), how important is reverse to you?
2) How does the Propel system/prop hold up to stumps, and moss tangles?
I've read that the Mirage system works better than the Propel in moss but that is just what I've read.
Again, I have not pedaled either kayak yet but I will soon and when I do, I may find that I like one system better than the other and that alone may override my above concerns.

Just give them both a try. I can say I have a pro angler and fish Rayburn on a regular basis and have never disliked my yak! The reverse issue for me is fixed by using a paddle to back out of situations I can't turn through. If you ever want to get together and fish let me know I live in Fort Worth but my folks have a house on Sam Rayburn so I go there A LOT!

Not having reverse hasn't been a problem for me on my Hobie. Look closely where the native's propel drive locks. The locks are made out of plastic and if you hit something too hard they will break. I've hit numerous rocks with my propel drive and all I've had to do is bend the metal masts (rods) back straight. Plus if I'm going down a river and see rocks ahead I can kick my mirage drive flat against the bottom of my kayak leaving only a few inches of drive hanging down. The propel drive doesn't have that option and it takes longer to pull it up out of the water.

I've fished Fork a lot from my Propel and hit many a stump with no problems. Weeds and grass can be a problem but has never been one to the point that I was disappointed in the performance of the drive. Reverse is a nice feature. You really need to try both before you buy so you can be sure what will work best for you.

Both are great boats. You really have to try it out before you buy. And when I say try it out, you would really need to borrow/rent each for a full day and fish to see how the boat handles while you try to catch fish.

And those locking tab on the propel drive are over designed in my opinion. I only lock it in place if I'm trying to haul [censored], if not I never lock it. I've hit plenty of stumps and all it does is pop up a little and goes back down.

i have both, wife has propel and I have the PA, there are major differences in how your legs position when pedaling. I found the position of the pedals and the fwd/aft motion of the mirage drive to be comfortable on my knees. My wife and son prefer the position and motion of the pedals on the propel. Before you drop that kind of money, follow the advice on here " test drive them both " Mariner sail let me try both models on the water, gave them both a lengthy spin. Comfort was the highest priority for me. Good Luck, both are awesome fishing machines.

Thanks to all that have responded. I appreciate it. Keep the comments coming. BH: there are not any places around Rayburn to rent these kayaks, much less fish out of one for a day.
