I'm planning a family vacation next month. With all the rain I'm not real sure where to head. I would like to rent an air conditioned cabin for a few days. Something near a lake, creek or river. I usually enjoy fishing for panfish with a fly rod. I'm looking mainly for something in the central Texas area but not limited to that. From that point I can research other attractions and family activities in the local area. We mainly just enjoy relaxing, cooking out, hiking, fishing and swimming for a few days anyway.

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try Bluegill Lakes Cabins near Athens. Athens is not that far from the hill country. They have some huge bluegills in large ponds. The cabins are air conditioned and comfortable. Click for their web page.

I was hoping to stay within about a 4 to 6 hour drive. We didn't want to stray to far away from home on this trip.

Two places you may want to Google. Inks Lake State Park and the Perdernales State Park. Great bank areas with some nice fish. Also good areas for the fly rod.

Google shows 2 hours and 52 minutes from Brenham to Athens. Add a few minutes for in-city and finding the ponds and you are still under four hours.
