Years ago we used to see an alligator on Athens regularly. Anyone seen him/them lately?

4 or 5 years ago we saw an alligater pulling a small boat across the lake not far from the water intake. The guy had him hooked on a rod and was just letting him pull. Later heard the wardens took the gater away. And also heard the guy was in trouble for hooking him. I think it would almost certainly have been hooked on purpose and that gives the wardens heartburn. Most of this is hearsay but for certain I saw the gater pulling the boat.

There had been at least one in Athens for as long as I can remember. Have not heard of or seen it in many years.

the last time I saw it was maybe two years ago, it was in the section of lake just north of fm 317. i went through the square culvert and there was one large gator and two smaller gators.

i went through this spring and they were not there.

I saw one in 2013 just south of FM 317. It was 7-8 feet long. I called the game warden to make him aware. He said that he knew about it and kept an eye on it from time to time. I think it has a steady diet of the resident Canadian geese.

I've seen gators in virtually every lake I've fished more than a couple of times.

This. There's no such thing as "one gator". They have survived by hiding from us and they are quite good at it. I would find it hard to believe that any lake in Texas didn't have any.

I would wager a crisp 100 dollar bill against a hole in a donut that there's plenty of lakes in west Texas that don't have gators. fish

The West Texas lakes don't, no gators out there in the desert. But it seems like anything east of the 35 corridor should.
