Hello all I just recently bought a kayak and think it's time to buy a fish finder as well!! Only thing is I don't know much about them...I would like to purchase one below $200. I've heard the black and white ones are better only because you can see them easier on a sunny day. Anyways been looking at ones on Amazon...please send me you're thoughts. Thank you!!

So far Ive looked at Garmin Echo 301c Worldwide,Lowrance 000-11448-001 Elite-3X,Lowrance Mark-5x Pro. Didn't know if someone could provide some information on these if they have used them or not.

They should all show fish/structure. Where the brands will differ is in the graphic user interface and menu systems. You need to consider if you want traditional sonar, down scan imaging, GPS, side scan, etc. Don't forget to budget for a battery and mounting system for the display and transducer.
You could go to Cabela's or Bass Pro and scroll through the menus on the display models to see which has an easy interface. Something like the Lowrance Elite-4x CHIRP has both traditional and down scan for about $200.

What functions are important to you? Down Scan? Regular Broadband? GPS?
I didnt care about GPS, since I use the navionics app (best $10 app ever). I wanted downscan and broadand, so I bought the Lowrance Elite 4x HDI.
I have no issues with the color, and actually really like it compared to black and white.
