I found a super clean jigmaster 505hs on eBay last week. It finally came in today. I don't think it has ever had line put on it. And it came with the box, wrench, and paperwork. I have done a little research on these and seems as tho I need to upgrade the drag washers. Any one have any suggestions on which ones to get? I can't wait to reel in a fish with it.

What do you plan on catching with it? The only reels I've upgraded the drag washers on is my 6/0's and 9/0 due to them being used for big fish. I own 4 jigmasters and they are great reels. I use them on my surf rods. You can cast them a country mile and they stand up to big fish. Biggest fish caught was a 5' bull shark along with numerous bull reds. It's never a bad idea to upgrade the washers but I only do it with my big reels. Mine are upgraded with carbontex. Check eBay for them.

If you're using 20-40# mono, there's really no need to change out the drag washers. But, if you're gonna spool up with heavy braid, then it might not be a bad idea.

The first fishing reel I owned was a Penn 500 with a red anodized spool (I think my brother may still have it), back in 1981. Used it for everything from Pacific bonito, lingcod, calico bass, and even the occasional monster-sized batray off the local piers. I've always had at least one Penn 500 in my tackle since I was a kid. Great value for a solid reel.

Go to alantani.com and you will find more upgrades to jigmasters than you can imagine. Carbontex is a must and if you want to increase the drag, a 5+1 drag stack is available. Nest, consider a SS gear sleeve. BTW, the 5:1 gears in the 505 are known to be weak and can be a problem if the drag is increased.
